zoe had tons of questions about why pappa went to school a few weeks ago. he was taking his lorry license, and the only way he got her to stop asking "why? why? why?!" was to promise to take her for a ride when he got his license. well, today that day came. zoe got to ride to daycare in her very own private lorry escort! she thought it was great fun.
and then if that wasn't enough of a cool dad thing to do. thomas got eijla, who is only 10 days old, her passport. all the research we did online said it usually takes about 5 weeks, and we were getting worried because we have a family reunion to make it to in two weeks stateside. but after waiting a week for a paper that did not come we went into the irs (well, that is about the equivalent, maybe social services and taxes would be the proper name), and he convinced the woman not only to get us the paper, "even though it would be coming in the post any day now" but to stamp and sign it, or a copy of it anyway, so that it looked official, even though it was only the application of her name and not the approval form. then we headed off to the police, where thomas had already warmed them up a couple of weeks ago. he had been in and asked them about the quickest way to fix a passport to a newborn, and they had laughed and asked him if he shouldn't maybe have the baby before worrying about the passport. anyway, when we came in on tuesday, they remembered him, and were very open to using the forms we had instead of the usual ones. shocking that thomas could convince two swedish bureaucracy departments to think outside the box, and on the same day even. so today he was in and picked up the passport, they said it was probably a record, they had never seen a passport get fixed so quickly for someone so little. a ten day old with her own pass! all thanks to superdad! usa, here we come!
